  • Study provides insights into Cenozoic environmental change and ecosystem evolution
In a study published in Science China: Earth Sciences, researchers from Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) quantitatively reconstructed the paleoclimatic parameters, based on 48 floras for the QTP, using Bioclimatic Analysis (BA) and Jointed Probability Density Functions (JPDFs). They then applied the Hadley Centre Coupled Model version3 (HadCM3) to simulate the corresponding paleoclimate.

  • Microbes are recruited in soil environment according to ecosystem demand
In a study published in Science of the Total Environment, researchers from Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) tried to evaluate the spatial pattern of nitrogen and phosphorus cycling functional genes and to find out their potential influence on the aboveground plant community in a hyper-diverse tropical forest ecosystem in Xishuangbanna.

  • Seasonal fog alleviates drought stress of rubber trees in Xishuangbanna
In a study published in Journal of Hydrology, researchers from Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) analyzed carbon/water flux data during 2014–2016 in a mature rubber plantation in Xishuangbanna. They compared the net ecosystem CO2 exchange, gross primary production, canopy evapotranspiration, crop water productivity, canopy conductance and transpiration rate under foggy and non-foggy days of cool dry (November-February) and hot dry (March-April) seasons to reveal the impact of fog on these carbon and water processes.

  • Study sheds light on mechanism of OsIRO3 modulating Fe homeostasis in rice
In a study published in Plant Journal, researchers from Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) showed that the loss-of-function of OsIRO3 caused the up-regulation of many Fe deficiency inducible genes in the root.

  • Study shows positive effects of shading and watering on early seedling survival after topsoil translocation in karst region
In a study published in Forest Ecology and Management, researchers from Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) tried to explore how shading and watering quantitatively impact seedling survival and growth and whether different species respond differently to shading and watering over time when forest topsoil are exposed to open environments.

  • Multi-dimensional approach needed to protect woody plants in Xishuangbanna
In a study published in Biodiversity and Conservation, researchers from Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) identified spatial patterns for 158 threatened tree species in Xishuangbanna, using species diversity and phylogenetic metrics such as phylogenetic diversity (PD), standardized effect size of PD (PDses), net relatedness index (NRI), and evolutionary distinctiveness and global endangerment (EDGE).

  • JcSEP3 regulates stamen development in Jatropha curcas
In a study published in Planta, researchers from Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) investigated the role of the JcSEP3 gene in floral organ development in the woody plant Jatropha curcas.

  • Two new Polyalthiopsis species reported from China
Two of the unknown species were introduced from southeastern Yunnan in 2000 and from Napo, Guangxi, in 2002, respectively, but without any information on their locations or habitats. Fortunately, XTBG researchers identified the locations and in April 2021 found these species in the wild. After morphological comparisons and phylogenetic analyses based on five chloroplast regions, the researchers confirmed two new species and named them as Polyalthiopsis nigra and Polyalthiopsis xui respectively.

  • Enclosures promote hydrological function and services in savannas
In a study published in Land Degradation & Development, researchers from Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) tried to assess the effect of grazing exclusion on water storage, soil infiltrability, and preferential water flows and explore related influencing factors in dry-hot savanna systems.
