In order to support regional development, some of XTBG technologies including patented techniques, new varieties, models and methodologies are widely adopted and applied in various places.

Tropical timbers such as Tectona grandis (Teak), Anthocephalus chinensis, etc. are widely grown in Xishuangbanna.

Medicinal plants such as Rauvolfia yunnanensis, Flemingia macrophylla, Dracaena cochinchinensis, Alstonia scholaris etc. are commercially grown and used for pharmaceutical materials.

New Citrus varieties cultivated from XTBG become popular tropical fruits in Xishuangbanna.

The man-made rubber-tea community experimented in the garden that won the 1st national prize have been well adopted in the island Province of Hainan for over 10,000 hectares.

In addition to the development and extension of the above-mentioned economic plants, XTBG researchers also helped local and regional development by undertaking projects in collaboration with local partners. In 2007, XTBG scientists were granted a National Program to technically support regional development in the Karst regions of Guizhou Province. Some other on-going experiments as Calamus sp. (rattan), Stephania yunnanensis, Dendrocalamus giganteus (bamboo) etc. are being conducted in collaboration with local government agencies.
