Xishuangbanna Tropical Rainforest Ecosystem Station (XTRES) is one of the Chinese Ecosystem Research Network (CERN) and the national key field scientific observation station, XTRES focuses on the long-term integrated monitoring and studies of the structure, function and dynamics of tropical rainforest ecosystem and man-made plant communities with multi-layers and multi-species, to understand the relationship and interaction among all elements in tropical rainforest and its environment. Moreover, XTRES explores approaches to develop biological resources of exploitation and conservation, economic benefits and ecological effects in tropical China, to provide scientific basis for the rational exploitation and conservation of ecological environment and biological resources, restoration and rehabilitation of degraded mountain ecosystem and sustainable development. Now XTRES has good field monitor and research facilities and analysis apparatus, and has good research condition and foundation for the studies of tropical rainforest ecosystem.
