Genera of Lamiaceae in China, a comprehensive taxonomic work, has been recently been published by Huazhong University of Science and Technology Press. The book is co-edited by Li Bo of Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) and Xiang Chunlei of Kunming Institute of Botany (KIB), together with other taxonomic experts. The book systematically reviews the historical and current phylogenetic studies of the family and provides a thorough revision and update of the genera of Lamiaceae found in China. This new monograph updates the numbers to 100 genera and more than 1,000 species, compared with Flora of China and its English revised edition, which recorded about 90 genera and over 800 species of Lamiaceae in China. Among these, 23 genera have been synonymized, while 26 genera are newly recognized—13 of which were transferred from Verbenaceae, and the remaining 13 are newly recorded, reinstated, or recently established genera in China. To date, the diversity of Chinese Lamiaceae covers 19 tribes and 11 subfamilies out of the 22 tribes and 12 subfamilies recognized worldwide. The descriptions of the genera are in both Chinese and English, accompanied with traditional hand-drawn ink illustrations. Each entry details morphological characteristics, geographical distribution, species diversity, and current phylogenetic insights.
