Reinwardtia belongs to subfamily Linoideae in Linaceae It is heterostylous, anddimorphic pollen and stigmas are reported. Historically, two Reinwardtia species, R. tetragyna and R. trigyna have been recorded in Myanmar, but R. trigyna has been treated as a synonym of R. indica.
During November and December in 2014 and 2016, a team from Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) and Kunming Institute of Botany (KIB), in collaboration with the Forest Research Institute of Myanmar, conducted fieldwork in northern Myanmar to survey plant diversity. During this fieldwork, specimens of Reinwardtia were found in Putao, Kachin state
Based on a detailed examination of the morphological and anatomical characteristics of the material with R. indica, the researchers confirmed it as a new species and named it as Reinwardtia glandulifera.
Reinwardtia glandulifera is similar to R. indica, particularly in the ovate and oblong leaves and yellow corolla, but it differs in its bracts, calyx and other flower features. It has dense glandular hairs on the margin. Petals are free at the base. Its flowers have five styles.
The new species is known from Putao, Kachin State, where it grows in the understory of seasonal tropical rain forests and tropical mountain forests, 900–1300 m.
The new species “Reinwardtia glandulifera (Linaceae), a new species from Kachin State, northern Myanmar” has been published in Phytotaxa.
