Seed Biology Group, affiliated to the Key Laboratory of Tropical Plant Resources and Sustainable Use of Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG), Chinese Academy of Sciences, was set up in November 2019. Relying on the rich plant germplasm resources in Yunnan and the urgent conservation needs for the rare and endangered species in both tropical and subtropical regions, we use the discipline knowledge and experimental technologies associated with plant molecular biology, genetics, bioinformatics and biochemistry to carry out both fundamental and applied studies around specific scientific issues concerning seed biology.
The specific research fields are listed below:
(1) Using paddy/upland rice and Arabidopsis thaliana as research materials, decipher the regulatory mechanism and signaling network controlling seed development、dormancy、germination、storage and nutritional quality, and also decipher the regulatory mechanism of seeds upon diverse adversities such as cold, heat, drought and salinity;
(2) Using tropical plants as research materials, dig the key genes and decipher the regulatory mechanism and signaling network that control seed recalcitrance, and explore effective technologies that contributes to the preservation of tropical recalcitrant seeds.
