A cooperation agreement has been recently signed between Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) and Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden (SBG). At the signing ceremony, Prof. Zhang Jiaolin, CPC secretary and deputy director of XTBG, expressed gratitude to the forestry and grassland authorities of both regions for their long-standing support. He noted that the agreement represents a concrete step toward implementing China’s national biodiversity conservation strategy through the joint effort to establish national botanical gardens. According to the agreement, the two sides will focus on ex-situ conservation of rare and endangered plants, germplasm exchange, collaborative scientific research, talent exchange, and science education and tourism linkage, aiming to achieve complementary advantages and resource sharing. Prof. Hu Yonghong, executive director of SBG, said that XTBG and SBG share a long history of cooperation. The new agreement will further solidify hat foundation by fully leveraging each garden’s strengths in scientific research, species conservation, public education, and international collaboration. During the visit, XTBG researchers also engaged in a series of activities including plant germplasm exchange and academic discussions with their partners in SBG.
