A meeting on phylogenetic studies and practical technology exchange was held at Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) from January 6-10. It brought together over 30 participants from 14 institutions to discuss plant phylogenetics and exchange practical technology.

The participating experts made presentations concerning basic principles and methods of plant taxonomy; progress in phylogenetic development methods and technology; life tree and systematic advancements of Algae; life tree and systematic advancements of mosses, gymnosperms, angiosperms; current status and trends in biogeography research; DNA barcoding technology and species identification, etc.

In the technical exchange section, Li Jianwu, Zhou Shishun, Yu Wenbin, Yao Xin, and Jin Jianjun led the participants in practical activities such as tropical plant classification, identification, Sanger sequencing data processing and comparison, phylogenetic and diversity analysis, low-copy nuclear gene analysis, and assembly and analysis of next-generation sequencing data.

The meeting was hosted by the Plant Systematics and Biogeography Professional Committee of the Yunnan Provincial Botanical Society, and undertaken by XTBG. The Yunnan Wuzhengyin Science Foundation and Yunnan Provincial Ecological Society co-organized the event.
