The19th joint meeting of Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) and nature reserve administrations was held in Yuanjiang on December 18. The fourth Savannah Science Forum was concurrently held. With “Biodiversity conservation and research” as its theme, the meeting brought together over 150 representatives.
Mr. Wang Jianhong, CPC secretary of Yuanjiang County, said that the Savannah Science Forum has deepened the cooperation between the government and scholars, promoting the construction of ecological science education cultural tourism projects in Yuanjiang County.
Prof. Yang Yongping, director of XTBG, reminisced about the historical origins between XTBG and Yuanjiang County, emphasizing the importance of protecting, researching, and restoring the Savannah ecosystem, as well as relevant measures.
Over the past 18 years, the scientific and technological cooperation between XTBG and the national nature reserves has been fruitful. This is the 19th time that the joint annual meeting was held. Efforts are intensified to coordinate biodiversity conservation work between natural reserves and XTBG.
At the scientific meeting, participating researchers and experts talked about ecosystem monitoring, biodiversity conservation and research, scientific capacity building, etc.

“Biodiversity conservation and research are the focal points of the national ecological civilization. XTBG should collaborate with nature conservation authorities to ensure effective biodiversity protection, scientific support, and talent cultivation,” said Prof. Xing Yaowu, deputy director of XTBG.
