The 7th Luosuo River Forum on Science Education was held in Xishuangbanna Tropcial Botanical Garden (XTBG) from October 24-26. With the theme of "Nature education in the context of science education", the forum brought together 120 participants from multiple organizations and professions to discuss trends and future of science education, nature education based on venues and bases, science and nature education in the age of artificial intelligence, and new explorations and practices in research travel development.
The forum featured 4 keynote speeches, 18 thematic reports, 7 case sharing sessions, 25 poster presentations, and displays of cultural products from 5 organizations, providing a platform for attendees to engage in in-depth discussions and seek collaborative opportunities.
Prof. Yang Yongping, director of XTBG, reviewed the role played by the Luosuo River Forum in exploring the frontier of science education since its establishment in 2016 and proposed to assist in the exploration and inheritance of ethnic culture through popular science research.
The keynote speakers were Mr. Zeng Xiaolian, Prof. Chen Jin, Prof. Li Yue, and Assoc. Prof. Wang Dapeng.
Prof. Zeng Xiaolian presented “science and art in the natural history illustration”. Through a series of exquisite natural history paintings, he shared his dedicated journey in creating these works and emphasized that both science and art require sustained passion and intense focus.
Prof. Li Yue highlighted the importance of transitioning from abstract to concrete thinking and looked ahead to the challenges faced by science education from four perspectives: curriculum development, teacher team building, equity in science education, and the impact of technological revolution on education.
Wang Dapeng interpreted the theories and methods behind high-quality science popularization work and illustrated the scientific principles and methods for practitioners in the field using vivid examples.
Prof. Chen Jin presented “Towards the integrated development of science education and nature education." He analyzed and reviewed the developmental history of science education research and nature education research, pointed out the problems and challenges they face in the current era, and proposed directions for their integrated development through two empirical research cases.
The Luo Suo River Forum on Science Education was established in 2016 and is regularly held at XTBG. It attracts numerous domestic and international science education practitioners and related experts and scholars to gather by the Luo Suo River. It has gradually grown into a high-quality platform for multidisciplinary exchanges in China's science education field, leading the development direction of domestic science and environmental education.
The 7th Luosuo River Forum on Science Education brought together new thoughts and practices in science and nature education, providing significant insights into how to cultivate citizens with scientific literacy.
