CAS renews cooperation with Myanmar partner

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation (MoNREC) of Myanmar on April 8. It is a renewal of the cooperation between the two sides. As representatives of the two sides, CAS vice president ZHANG Yaping and deputy minister Min Thu of MoNREC signed the MoU. 

Afterwards, a supplementary agreement was signed between Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) of CAS and the Forestry Department of MoNREC. Prof. QUAN Ruichang and Mr.Thaung Naing Oo signed the agreement. 

With the co-constructed Southeast Asia Biodiversity Research Institute (SEABRI) as a platform, the two sides will further deepen cooperation in biodiversity research and protection, talent training, technology application, academic exchanges, etc. They will join hands to make greater contributions to building a more sustainable China-Myanmar community of shared future for all, as well as ecological environment protection and human sustainable development in Southeast Asia. 

The CAS-MoNREC MoU signing ceremony was witnessed by relevant departments, agencies and personnel of both sides.  

 

ABOUT  

The SEABRI was officially launched in 2015. It is an international scientific research and education institute affiliated directly to CAS and managed by XTBG. It integrates efforts from CAS and international institutes to organize professional research groups and train researchers in Southeast Asian countries; and provide support to all domestic and international partners.
