A group of 8 researchers from Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) made field investigations of tropical forests of different types in Thailand from March 24-30. They also had academic exchanges with Thai partners. During the visit, the researchers visited and had in-depth exchanges with researchers from Kasetsart University and Mahidol University. They discussed and reached common ideas on continuing to promote cooperative research and joint application for projects. Afterwards, the researchers together with their Thai collaborators conducted field investigations of tropical lowland rainforest and mangrove forest in Ranong Province and the 16-ha evergreen deciduous mixed forest dynamic plot and observation tower in Mae Klong as well. The visit enhanced cooperation and exchanges between XTBG and Thai universities in tree rings, soil organisms, tropical rainforest communities, and mangrove ecosystems, etc. “It may contribute to further expanding and improving Sino-Thai ecological research cooperation and carrying out biodiversity conservation in Southeast Asia,” said a researcher of XTBG.
