The Southeast Asia Biodiversity Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS-SEABRI) held its annual academic meeting 2024 at Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) on March 14-16.
Mr. Wang Zhenyu, deputy director of CAS Bureau of International Cooperation delivered an opening speech. He briefly introduced highlight achievements of SEABRI over past year. He put forward requirements for the future work of SEABRI to carry out innovative cooperation around major national needs, strategic needs of the host country and region, and major livelihood issues, provide platform support for CAS to enhance its scientific and technological innovation capabilities and seize the commanding heights of science and technology. He also asked SEABRI to further improve openness of research platforms and the pertinence and rationality of scientific research task deployment as well.
Prof. Yang Yongping, director of XTBG and director of CAS-SEABRI, summarized achievements over past 10 years.
The principal investigators in charge of 3 core research teams and 4 international cooperation programs reported their work progress.

The Academic Committee, with academician Xu Zhihong as chairman, evaluated the research programs and discussed the 3 international partnership research projects proposed to be supported.?The experts also discussed and made suggestions on future scientific research layouts and key work planning of SEABRI.
Academician Xu Zhihong encouraged SEABRI to make long-term planning, focusing on the needs of Yunnan Province and the country. He asked it to further sort out existing achievements, continue to promote basic research investigation work, strive to refine major output results, serve national strategy and resource development.
The annual meeting was attended by 60 researchers and representatives from CAS Bureau of International Cooperation, XTBG, Institute of Botany, Institute of Microbiology, Kunming Institute of Botany, Kunming Institute of Zoology, Chengdu Institute of Biology, Institute of Aquatic Biology, Beijing University, etc.
