Jingdong Subtropical Botanical Garden officially opened to the public on April 29. It is the first subtropical and an uncommon montane botanical garden in southwest China. The opening ceremony brought together guests nationwide.

Jingdong Subtropical Botanical Garden is 16 km away from downtown Jingdong, located between Wuliangshan national nature reserve and Ailaoshan national nature reserve. Its construction was launched in 2012. Through more than 10-year construction, four living collections of orchid plants, rare and endangered plants, Camellia flowers, and colorful flower field have been constructed and open to the public. More than 4000 subtropical plant species are under ex situ conservation within the garden, providing a breeding ground for endangered plants. Now, rare plants are thriving in the garden.

The construction of Jingdong Subtropical Botanical Garden is carried out by Jingdong local government in cooperation with Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG). New living collections themed with aquatic plants, Rhododendron flowers and others will be constructed in the near future.
Known as the "natural gene bank of species", southwest Yunnan’s Jingdong county is one of the regions with the richest biodiversity at the same latitude. Jingdong Subtropical Botanical Garden is expected to be integrated with biological resources and biodiversity conservation, scientific research, ecotourism, and science popularization. The botanical garden will gradually transfer the domesticated plants to the public areas, so as to popularize the knowledge on botany, ecology, environment and biodiversity.
