The Southeast Asia Biodiversity Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS-SEABRI) held its annual academic meeting 2023 at Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) on March 2.  

Ms. WU Yan, deputy director of CAS Bureau of International Cooperation delivered an opening speech. She briefly introduced achievements of SEABRI　over past 3 years, recognizing SEABRI’s contribution to S& T innovation, promoting international cooperation, and serving strategic development, etc.  

Prof. YANG Yongping, director of XTBG and director of CAS-SEABRI, summarized achievements over past 3 years. He encouraged SEABRI to develop into a platform of international influence in science and education, by following the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and green “Belt and Road” Initiative.

The principal investigators in charge of 5 research teams and 2 international cooperation programs reported their work progress.  

The Academic Committee, with academician Xu Zhihong as chairman, evaluated and selected the sixth core research program and 4 research projects proposed to be supported. 

The annual meeting also talked about science program planning. The researchers and experts discussed problems and plans, especially enhancing academic exchanges among research teams. 

The annual meeting was attended by 59 researchers and representatives from CAS Bureau of International Cooperation, XTBG, Institute of Botany, Institute of Microbiology, Kunming Institute of Botany, Kunming Institute of Zoology, Chengdu Institute of Biology, Institute of Aquatic Biology, Beijing University, Xinhua News Agency, etc.
