Chinese government has done excellent job about wandering elephants: expert

KUNMING, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Fifteen wandering wild Asian elephants had been trekking about 500 km to the outskirts of Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province, probably one of the longest journeys ever recorded for such a herd in China.
These elephants have not only triggered a domestic craze but also attracted international attention.
Jose Ahimsa Campos Arceiz, a Spanish professor at the Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, spoke highly of the Chinese government's efforts in handling the elephants.
"Two things have been really excellent. One is the Chinese government has been very patient. The second thing is that they have done a very, very good job, excellent job, preventing contact between people and elephants," he said.
