17 wild Asian elephants enter XTBG

Seventeen Asian wild elephants have entered Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) of Chinese Academy of Sciences from May 23.

The elephants are now wandering in the eastern part of XTBG. The loss brought by the elephant herd has not been estimated yet.

It’s the second time that the herd of elephants entering XTBG since early February this year.

Local authorities and XTBG still keep monitoring the track of the wild Asian elephants in the garden. Measures have been taken to prevent human-elephant conflict as the elephants may well stray into human settlements.
