A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) and National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (also known as BIOTEC), Thailand on May 24. As representatives of the two sides, Prof. Hu Huabin, deputy director of XTBG, and Dr. Somvong Tragoonrung, executive director of BIOTEC signed the MoU at BIOTEC.
According to the MoU, the two institutions (XTBG and BIOTEC) will have deep cooperation in graduate student education, information and material exchange, joint research and field studies, workshops and training courses, etc.
“The signing of the MoU is to set a base for promoting the BRI strategies and research work in the southeast Asian countries of XTBG in the future”, said Prof. Hu Huabin.
The two sides also discussed specific collaborative actions. They will cooperate in establishment of seed bank, studies of seed biology, soil microorganism, epiphytic plant diversity, etc.
Some XTBG researchers including Prof. Yang Xiaodong, Prof. Akihiro Nakamura, Dr. Chen Yajun and scientists of international institutions witnessed the signing ceremony.
After the signing ceremony, XTBG researchers visited the research facilities of BIOTEC.
The MoU is a further step for promoting the establishment of forest dynamics plot belt in Thailand.
