Prof. Chen Jin, director of Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) has proposed to further promote “zero extinction” of plant species, turn 1 million mu (about 66000 ha) of marginal rubber plantations into tropical rainforests or natural forests in Xishuangbanna. He also proposed to enhance the protection and renovation of farming landscapes with Dai nationality as major. 

His suggestions were raised at high-level workshop on ecological protection and renovation in Xishuangbanna on January 16-17.  

The workshop was aimed to seek a holistic approach to conserving our mountains, rivers, forests, farmlands, lakes, and grasslands. It was hosted by China Ecological Civilization Research and Promotion Association and organized by Xishuangbanna government. It brought together representatives from government departments, universities, and research institutions. 

11 scholars and experts including Chen Jin made speeches at the workshop. 

The participants agreed that mountains, rivers, forests, farmlands, lakes, and grasslands from a community of life. They proposed that the promotion of ecological civilization should be more scientific and efficient, and ecological protection and renovation should be closely combined with fight against poverty. 

Chen Jin’s proposals were agreed by many participants at the high-level workshop.
