The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) unveiled a new plate for CAS-Myanmar Joint Center for Research and Education at the Southeast Asia Biodiversity Research Institute (SEABRI) in Myanmar on October 22.

The aim of the joint center is to strengthen biodiversity-related research and developing early-career researchers between the CAS and Myanmar, according to a statement at the unveiling ceremony.

The CAS-Myanmar Joint Center for Research and Education is handled by the Department of Forestry of Myanmar and Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG).

U Zaw Min, deputy director general of the Department of Forestry of Myanmar, expressed gratitude for the efforts that CAS has made to enhance biodiversity studies and personnel training in Myanmar.

“Till now, we have 53 graduate students studying at University of CAS. With the joint center, more Myanmar students may have opportunities to pursue their Ph.D or Master's degrees on biological sciences in CAS's research institutes”, said Prof. Wu Yueliang, vice president of the University of CAS.

Prof. Quan Ruichang, deputy director of SEABRI, said that XTBG will continue to promote comprehensive science and education cooperation using the newly unveiled platform at SEABRI.
