Annual Meeting 2017 of Ecological Society of Yunnan 2017 held at XTBG

On December 3-6, the 8th Symposium on Tropical Forest Ecology and Annual Meeting 2017 of Ecological Society of Yunnan  was held at Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG). The theme of the meeting is “Biodiversity and ecological security of tropical China and Hainan Island”.

The meeting brought together more than 130 researchers and students involved in ecology studies, from XTBG, Yunnan University, Hainan University, Guangxi University,  Guangxi Normal University, Guangxi Institute of Botany, and South China Botanical Garden.

“The study of tropical forest ecology is very important. To meet the need, XTBG has organized advanced filed course on ecology and conservation ecology. With XTBG as host institution, Southeast Asia Biodiversity Research Institute (SEABRI) will admit students from SE Asian countries to pursue degree studies. All these contribute to regional biodiversity conservation. Meanwhile, the meeting is part of work to support the green “Belt and Road” Initiative” said Chen Jin, director of XTBG, at his opening speech.

Prof. Cao Min, director general of Ecological Society of Yunnan, delivered an opening speech. He said that ecology has a broad impact on China’s social development. He called the participants to well combine ecological studies and social progress, to tackle opportunities and challenges facing tropical ecological studies together, and to play a role in ecology discipline development and serve ecological civilization.

At the meeting, ecologists and young researchers present their research progress. Prof. Kyle Tomlinson, Prof. Liu Wenjie, and Prof. Tan Zhenghong are invited keynote speakers. 19 ecologists and 24 students presented their work. 11 poster presentations were available.

Zhao Fan, Yan Yumei, Zhang Junjun, Wu Lamei, Li Ruiwen, and Cheng Yikang won award for their presentations.

The meeting was organized by Key Laboratory of Tropical Forest Ecology and Ecological Society of Yunnan.

Prior to the conference, a meeting of the academic meeting of the key lab was held, with attendance of CAS academician Kang Le, Prof. Li Dezhu, Prof. He Fangliang, Prof. Chen Jin, Prof. Cao Min, Prof. Ou Xiaokun, Prof. Li Qingjun, Prof. Rihchard Corlett, etc.
