The “Botanical Garden Development & Management” training course 2017 is ongoing at Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden from September 4 to 29.
The course includes 8 days lectures and discussion, cover the origin, current status and future dimensions of botanic gardens; diverse roles of botanic gardens in living collections, capacity-building, plant diversity conservation, herbarium management, botanical garden management, horticulture, and public education.
Experts are invited to give lectures. Prof. Chen Jin, director of Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG), is one of the invited lecturers at the course.
In addition to lectures and discussion, the course also includes 4-dayfield excursion to Tianmu Mountain to gain practical experience on plant identification, field survey and plant taxonomy, 7 days of visits to several leading Chinese botanical gardens, and 4 days of internship in Chenshan Botanical Garden.
The “Botanical Garden Development & Management” training course is intended to focus on and help professionals involved in botanic garden and arboretum management from the Asian developing countries. The course is organized by International Association of Botanic Gardens (IABG) Asian Division, IABG, Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden and South China Botanical Garden.
