The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Southeast Asia Biodiversity Center will set up a branch in Laos, and this will help the two sides carry out cooperation in the fields of natural resources conservation and ecosystem management, according to a recent report. The news is released from a signing ceremony during Lao Minister of Science and Techonology Boviengkham Vongdara's visit to the Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden of CAS from August 16 to 17. In the presence of the participants, two MoUs were signed respectively between the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Personnel Department of Lao Ministry of Science and Technology, as well as between Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) and Lao Biotechnology and Ecology Institute (BEI). The newly signed MoUs provide a policy guarantee for a bilateral cooperation in science and technology and will strongly promote cooperation in the fields of personnel training and capacity building, construction of large-scale tropical rainforest ecological samples, and biodiversity conservation.
