The plate awarding ceremony to the first batch of China's science and technology tourism bases was held in Beijing on May 19. As the second on the list, Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) was granted the plate of “China's best science-themed tourist destination”. The plate awarding ceremony was attended by director general Li Jinzao of China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) and secretary general Deng Maicun of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). On behalf of XTBG, Prof. Hu Huabin received the plate. The first batch of China’s Top 10 Science & Technology Tourism Base was announced on March 28, with the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST), Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG), Three Gorges Dam on Yangtze River and Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center all on the list. Related: XTBG listed as China's Top 10 Science & Technology Tourism Base China's 10 sci-tech tourism bases In 2016, the China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) and Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) reportedly began consulting on the project in preparation to push it forward. To further cultivate science-themed tourism in the future, CNTA and CAS will highlight science and technology-themed tourism resources and build high-quality science tourism products.
