In supplementary issue 2 of the Bulletin of Chinese Academy of Sciences in May, it specially covers the international Outreach Initiative the CAS has launched and achievement made by closely collaborating with Belt and Road Countries. In the special issue, the achievement by the Southeast Asia Biodiversity Research InstituteChinese Academy of Sciences (CAS-SEABRI), is reported.

  It reported the infrastructure construction, talent training, capacity building, scientific research, and other progress by CAS-SEABRI since its official launch in 2015.

  In the special interview, Prof. Chen Jin, director of Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) and CAS-SEABRI, introduced the orientation and future development plan of the biodiversity research center.

 “CAS-SEABRI integrates scientific research, education, talents. It will be an overseas education center for the sustainable development of the Southeast Asian countries and serves “the Belt and Road strategy” said Chen Jin at the interview.

   “With Myanmar as a pilot, CAS-SEABRI focuses on biodiversity conservation, sustainable resource use, environment monitoring in SE Asian countries. It aims to become an important part of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, by carrying out joint scientific research and talent training, and building up an integrative research network and education platform”, according to Chen Jin.

 In the special issue, work of 8 CAS overseas institutes are reported, including South America Center for Astronomy, China-Africa Joint Center for Research and Education, Central Asian Center of Drug Discovery and Development of CAS, CAS Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia, China-Brazil Joint Laboratory for Space Weather, Kathmandu Center for Research and Education, China-Sri Lanka Joint Center for Education and Research, CAS Innovation Cooperation Center(Bangkok).
