The 6th meeting of the Southeast Asia Botanic Gardens (SEABG) Network was held in Bidoup Nui Ba national Park, Vietnam during April 24-28. The meeting brought together more than 60 representatives from 23 countries and regions. Prof. Hu Huabin, deputy director of Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG), headed up XTBG delegation to attend the conference.
The conference included two main components – a SEABG business meeting and a capacity building workshop.
It firstly introduced nonorthodox/recalcitrant/exceptional species – criteria and categories, and taxonomic overview of the current knowledge of the major groups of plants considered within the above categories (globally and specifically in Southeast Asia).
The meeting then discussed methods of ex situ conservation for concerned woody species – prolongation of longevity, cryopreservation, in vitro, other methods of ex situ conservation – genetically representative ex situ living conservation collections for concerned woody species – challenges and possibilities.
The 7th SEABG meeting is possibly held in Thailand.
