The two-day First Luosuo River Education Forum came to a successful end on August 12, with brainstorming, communication and exchanges, and thoughts contended by over 120 representatives from research institutes, education agencies, and non-governmental agencies. Participants had plenary sessions and symposia around the theme of “Innovation and cooperation – seeking new ways of science education” and tried to explore new ways and means for science education.

Public science was one of the hot topics at the Forum. With development of such websites as iNaturalist, and Chinese Field Herbarium, public science platforms seem to be development trend of public science education. The participants reached a common idea that public science is a key to solve environmental problems through environmental education, if there is a possible way to solve environmental problems.

At the plenary session, Prof. Chen Jin, director of XTBG, said that environmental problem is considered as a wicked problem ( i.e. a social or cultural problem that is difficult or impossible to solve). Environmental education is one of the ways to solve environmental problems, aiming at improving pro-environmental behaviors of citizens and increasing environmental awareness. It needs multidisciplinary research and innovative ways, and persistent efforts can solve the problem.

Three keynote plenary speeches, 16 oral presentations and poster presentations provided platform for participants to discuss and seek new ways for science education.
