Academician Zhang Yaping, vice president of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), headed up a 9-person delegation to Myanmar on August 24 for a 3-day visit. His visit was for the promotion of CAS Biodiversity Research Center in Myanmar.

     Prof. Zhang Yaping met Mr. Aye Myint Maung, vice minister of Environmental Conservation and Forestry. He expressed gratitude to the vice minister for all the support provided to Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) and other CAS institutions. CAS would work harmoniously with Myanmar institutions to promote work of Biodiversity Research Center. Mr. Aye Myint Maung said that his ministry will continually provide support and coordinate other efforts to CAS. The two sides also discussed some revisions for the signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between CAS and Myanmar Ministry of Environmental Conservation and Forestry. A revised MoU will be signed on an appropriate day.

On August 25, Prof. Zhang Yaping visited Chinese Embassy in Myanmar. Chinese Ambassador H.E. Mr. Hong Liang met CAS delegation. The ambassador said that the embassy will work with CAS to seek more cooperation with Myanmar and will provide assistance in duty-free entry of scientific instruments and facilities.

Afterwards, Prof. Zhang Yaping was present at the inauguration ceremony of the building renovation works of CAS Biodiversity Research Center based in Myanmar. Mr. Nyi Nyi Kyaw and Prof. Chen Jin delivered opening remarks.
