Continuous snowfall in SW Yunnan from January 9-11 affected many people, especially people in Jingdong County. The Ailaoshan Forest Ecosystem Research Station of Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) is severely influenced.

The snowfall in Ailaoshan exceeded 37 centimeters (cm), which is the heaviest since the establishment of Ailaoshan Forest Ecosystem Research Station 33 years ago.

The heavy snow made a 7-km road broken from Ailaoshan Nature Reserve to Ecology Station; electricity is not available; the work and living are very inconvenient.

For the sake of safety, graduate students have evacuated from the station.

XTBG and Jingdong county government are trying to restore road and power.

The statistics of damages to research facilities are ongoing.
