November 22 witnessed the successful ending of the Advanced Fieldcourse in Ecology and Conservation –XTBG 2014. The participants presented their findings to an invited audience. The six presentations were: Response of ants to resource provisioning in different habitats, 2) Is there competition among frugivorous birds at figs? a pilot study in Southwest China? 3) Biodiversity of butterflies in rainforest and rubber plantation of Southwest China, 4) Predicting the flower preference of genus Eurema butterflies in XTBG using floral traits, 5) Functional role of buttresses in two different tropical forests of Xishuangbanna, 6) A comparative study on bat and small non-volant mammal species between two habitats in Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden. The judge panel was composed of Chen Jin, Yang Xiaodong, Kyle Tomlinson, Alice Hughes, and Zhang Jiaolin. The first prize was given to “Predicting the flower preference of genus Eurema butterflies in XTBG using floral traits” completed by Ralph Sedricke C. Lupuz from University of the Philippines Manila, Jis Sebastian from Sacred Heart College of India, and Xu Wenhuan from Nanjing Forestry University.
