The second Board of Directors Meeting of the Chinese Union of Botanical Gardens (CUBG) was held in Shanghai on October 22. After the meeting, 37 botanical gardens were approved of joining CUBG. Up to now, CUBG has 86 members all over the country.
At the board meeting, CUBG chairman Chen Jin and vice chairmen reported progress in the four projects: “Full-cover conservation plan of native plant species in China”, “Evaluation and Accreditation System”, “Team Building”, and “Science Popularization”.
The CUBG Secretariat also reported its work over the past year. It has contributed to capacity building, and organized training courses on environmental education, horticulture, plant Identification and classification, etc.
CAS vice president SHI Erwei talked about the support of CAS Science and Technology Service Network Initiative. He also gave acknowledgement to achievement of CUBG. “The CUBG is still at its preliminary stage, with weak basis on the development” said he. SHI Erwei encouraged all member gardens to make a joint effort and give a play to each advantage, so as to solidly promote the construction and development of CUBG.
