The Joint 5th Conference of International Association of Botanical Gardens (IABG) Asian Division and East Asia Botanical Garden Network Meeting was held in Nanjing from 18 - 22 October 2014. More than 150 botanists and officials from Asia, Britain, Canada, and Russia attended the conference in Nanjing Botanical Garden Mem. Sun Yat-sen, Institute of Botany, Jiangsu Province.
Under the theme “building Capacity for Biological Resources Service - The Role of Botanical Gardens”, the conference addressed a wide spectrum of concern including plant conservation, plant germplasm resources, plant introduction and domestication, botanical researches, botanical garden management and conducts of garden practices.
Prof. Chen Jin, director of XTBG and Chairman of Chinese Union of Botanical Gardens (CUBG), was a member of the organizing committee and made a keynote speech entitled “From 'zero extinction' to 'complete coverage': a collective efforts from Botanical Garden community for an effective conservation to China's flora” at the conference.
The conference was composed of the following sumposia: Conservation Biology of Rare and Endangered Plants; Plant Acclimatization and Diversity; Exploitation and Utilization of Plants; Management and Construction of botanical garden; and Public Education.
The conference was organized by East Asia Botanical Garden Network and International Association of Botanical Gardens, Asian Division, hosted by Institute of Botany, Jiangsu Province and Chinese Academy of Sciences , Nanjing Botanical Garden Mem. Sun Yat-sen(NBG), and supported by Chinese Union of Botanical Gardens(CUBG), Professional Committee of Plant Environment and Diversity, Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, the Chinese Association of Botanic Gardens, Botanical Society of China
