China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has joined the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in the “Enhancing Capacity, Knowledge and Technology Support to Build Climate Resilience of Vulnerable Developing Countries”, a project funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF). The joint UNEP-NDRC global project was officially launched in April 2013.

The project Enhancing Capacity, Knowledge and Technology Support to Build Climate Resilience of Vulnerable Developing Countries” aims to build resilience using an ecosystem management approach in vulnerable developing countries by increasing institutional capacity, mobilizing knowledge and transferring appropriate best-practice adaptation technologies.

A group of experts for the joint UNEP-NDRC global project made a field trip in Xishuangbanna during May 6-10 to examine China’s good practices to ecosystem-based approaches to adaptation. During their stay in Xishuangbanna, the experts came to Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) and communicated with relevant professors.

Senior Engineer Deng Xiaobao introduced long-term monitoring and studies in Xishuangbanna Tropical Rainforest Ecosystem Station. Prof. Yang Xiaodong made a presentation entitled “Link biodiversity to reconstruct environment friendly rubber plantation”. Prof. Hu Huabin also communicated with the experts.

Afterwards, the experts made a field visit to the 64-ha experiment base for tropical vegetation restoration models and artificial control, and tropical rainforest within XTBG.
