Associate Professor Alice C Hughes of the Center for Integrative Conservation at XTBG has just been elected onto the inaugural board of INNGE: “The International Network of Next Generation Ecologists”. INNGE tries to improve connections between early career ecologists, especially with regards to new and emerging issues, as well as new techniques and approaches. China has some of the highest increases in the annual number of new doctorates, and needs to ensure that this new generation communicates effectively both within and outside China. One of Dr Hughes' priorities within INNGE will be to better connect China and Southeast Asia with the global ecological community. INNGE aims to reflect changes in technology, new approaches to education and capacity building, and new channels of communication. Additionally it aims to review the latest issues of sustainability and global change, and develop interdisciplinary approaches, using the latest technologies, combined with effective communication and discussion, and create an active global network for Young Ecologists.
