Prof. Zhang Yaping, vice president of CAS headed up a delegation to Sri Lanka during September 20-25. The delegation was composed of professors from Kunming Institute of Zoology, South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, and Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden. The delegation visited University of Ruhuna, Peradeniya Royal Botanical Garden, and University of Peradeniya . After the unveiling ceremony of the field observation station established with the aid of South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, the CAS delegation and University of Ruhuna exchanged ideas on biodiversity conservation, personnel training, and international cooperation. Prof. Chen Jin paid a special visit to Prof. Sarath Kotagam at University of Colombo, a well-known specialist on Sri Lankan fauna and flora. They discussed the possibility of jointly carrying out field course in Sri Lanka. In next March or April, a few professors and young faculties from XTBG may be invited to visit Sri Lanka and to explore further cooperation.
