In the year of 2011, Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) got robust development. XTBG received 42.65 million RMB in research funds from 65 new projects, got 107 papers published in internationally peer-reviewed journals, hosted the 4th South East Asia Botanic Gardens (SEABG) Director’s Meeting and other international conferences and symposia, celebrated the 100th anniversary of Prof. CAI Xitao, etc.

On the New Year day of 2011, XTBG New Scientific Research Center was put into use. The construction project of Comprehensive Platform of Bioenergy & Conservation Biology has been granted the 2011 National Investment Projects Excellence Awards by the Investment Association of China. It is one of the 37 award receivers nationwide. The new XTBG scientific research center design is the result of an "eco-cultural" concept which respects the native forest on the building site and expresses local cultural values in a modern friendly and functional way.

One of the most important events was that XTBG was selected as National 5A Tourist Attractions by China National Tourism Administration in July. XTBG is among the national top scenic spots.
