Dr. Hugh Possingham, professor of the University of Queensland and member of the Australian Academy of Science, visited XTBG on August 10.
He visited the living collections, herbarium, central laboratory, and investigated bird diversity in the field, accompanied by Mr. Wang Ximin.

Dr. Cao Min, Dr. Zhou Zhekun and some other scientists of XTBG had a discussion meeting with Dr. Hugh Possingham. They exchanged ideas on enhancing cooperation in scientific research and regional biodiversity conservation studies.
Dr. Hugh Possingham delivered a lecture entitled “The business of biodiversity: a decision theory approach to biodiversity conservation”, talking about how decision theory tools have been used to solve a variety of problems in conservation.

The audience
Dr. Hugh Possingham is a professor in the Schools of Mathematics & Physics and Biological Sciences, director of the Ecology Centre, and Australian Research Council Federation Fellow at theUniversity of Queensland. He is renowned for the reserve design software ‘Marxan’ that is used by government agencies, researchers and NGOs in over 90 countries, and has improved conservation planning worldwide.
