With an aim to help local government and people of Yunnan to conserve and make good use of aweto resources in China, XTBG organized a training course during May 24 and June 2. Participating in the course were some officials from Ministry of Agriculture, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and Department of Agriculture of Yunnan Province.
On May 24, Dr. Peng Yanqiong of XTBG presented “research methods and advances in aweto – a case study in Yunnan province”. Dr. Yang Pei introduced “identification of aweto” to the participants.
The participants got a chance to observe the specimens, knowing their morphological characters and salient features. They also visited the Biogeochemistry Laboratory, getting an understanding on how the soils of their habitats are analyzed.
During May 25 and June 2, Prof. Yang Darong of XTBG headed up a field survey to southeastern skirts of the Tibetan Plateau in Yunnan Province, such as White Horse Snow Mountain, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. They investigated the ecological environment of the producing areas of aweto, visited farmers, herdsmen, and businessmen.
