The construction project of Comprehensive Platform of Bioenergy & Conservation Biology has been recently granted the 2011 National Investment Projects Excellence Awards by the Investment Association of China. It is one of the 37 award receivers nationwide.

Initiated in 2006, the project construction scope is 27,762 square meters. The total investment is RMB 87.46 million. Spanning a period of about 3 years (June 16, 2008-October 1, 2010), the platform is put into good operation now.

The Comprehensive Platform of Bioenergy & Conservation Biology, commonly known as the XTBG new scientific research center, was designed by Mr. Alain Hays of France. The new XTBG scientific research center design is the result of an "eco-cultural" concept which respects the native forest on the building site and expresses local cultural values in a modern friendly and functional way.Considering bioclimatic aspects, the architecture designer used the natural building site declivity to integrate the research center into the garden, avoiding a too much massive look impression. He also tried to optimize the internal useful areas and restirct the wasted space and conserve the possibility of cross ventilation and visual “transparency” of all the laboratories and offices, keeping the functionality using perimeter wide corridors protected against the tropical heat by deep awnings which shade the façades in the most part.

The construction map was finished by Architecture & Engineering Design Institute of Yunnan Province.

Prof. Dr. Chen Jin was appointed the general mannager for the construction of the Comprehensive Platform of Bioenergy & Conservation Biology. Mr. Li Hongwei, CPC secretary of XTBG, was executive vice commander.

Thanks to concerted efforts of all parties and people concerned, the construction of XTBG new scientific research center has been well accomplished. With high environmental stability and well-equipped laboratories, the new scientific research center appears a beautifully idyllic scene in harmony with the natural landscape.
