May 19 is the first National Tourism Day of China. The date was chosen to commemorate the day when China's ancient travel book writer, Xu Xiake, began writing his masterpiece, "Travel Notes of Xu Xiake," in the Ming Dynasty, accoring to the National Tourism Administration of China (NTAC).
National Tourism Day is a day for municipalities and tourism sites around the country to promote their area or region.
XTBG used this day as a chance to let people know about activities and events in the garden.
Along with advertisement, XTBG offered discounts and other activities such as wildlife watching in the night and attractive popular science games. Coinciding with National Science and Technology Week, CAS Public Science Day, and International Biodiversity Day, XTBG took it a week-long celebration.
This year's tourism day theme is "Gain knowledge from thousands of books and accumulate experience by traveling thousands of miles."
In response to the theme, many travellers will come to XTBG to see the diverse plant collections in the garden, to experience their beauty associated with living and protecting biodiversity.
In Mengla county, the government held a celebration ceremony Thursady morning, which was participated by all scenic spots and administration in the county. XTBG offered discount tickets on the promotion site and showed some exhibit plates.
