XTBG students participate in 5th National Symposium on Ethnobotany

The 5th National Symposium on Ethnobotany and 4th Asia-Pacific Forum on Ethnobotany, initiated by the Ethnobotanical Society of China and organized by Minzu University of China, was held in Beijing during September 10-13. Four students from the Lab of Ethnobotany of XTBG participated in the symposium, among whom one student made a report.

The symposium covered such topics as hot spots in the progress of ethnobitanical studies and indigenous knowledge, development of ethnobotany and application of indigenous knowledge, progress of traditional ethnic medicine, traditional knowledge and biodiversity conservation, as well as protection, gain and benefit-sharing of genetic resources, etc.

Prof. Pei Shengji of Kunming Institute of Botany (KIB), who’s also a former director of XTBG, delivered a lecture entitled “Review of researches on ethnobotany during the past 30 years” at the symposium.

When talking about development of ethnobotany and application of traditional knowledge, Ms. Shi Yinxian, a student from XTBG Lab of Ethnobotany, made a report entitled “ Study on the antioxidant activity of young edible leaves in seven fig trees in Xishuangbanna”.
