The TV Column named Stories from the Rainforest for public education, which is co-sponsored by Xishuangbannan Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG), Xishuangbanna Forestry Bureau and Xishuangbanna TV, has been formally broadcast every Tuesday and Thursday on Banna TV1 since October 2.

At the opening ceremony of the TV Column held on September 21 in Jinghong, capital city of Xishuangbanna, Dr. Chen Jin, director of XTBG, delivered a warm speech. Prof. Chen Jin said that the opening of the public education column is aimed to increase the public awareness to care for rainforest and nature. Environmental protection has become a very hot topic in today’s society. In order to maintain the permanent impression of Xishuangbanna as a gorgeous and harmonious beautiful wonderland, XTBG actively promoted, in collaboration with Xishuangbanna Forestry Bureau and Banna TV, to open this column, which is of profound significance for conserving the tropical rainforest and biodiversity in Xishuangbanna.

The TV Column Stories from the Rainforest is focused on telling stories between the indigenous people and the rainforest and its ecosystem through narrating and describing. The 104-part TV works has been one third finished and is expected to be completed in two years.

In addition to broadcasting in Chinese, the program is to be televised in ethnic languages of Dai and Hani.
