At the invitation of Prof. Cao Min, deputy director of XTBG, Ms. Shen Yu, assistant director of US National Science Foundation (NSF) Beijing Office, paid a visit to XTBG during 12-14 September.

Prof. Chen Jin, director of XTBG, warmly welcomed Ms. Shen Yu’s visit and exchanged ideas with her on such common concerns as innovative culture and personnel training. Mr. She Yuping, head of the Personnel Department, gave an introduction of the Garden to Ms. Shen and discussed how to carry out exchange visits of young and middle-aged scientists between USA and China.

Ms. Shen Yu got a good impression on XTBG after being shown around the Garden. She is confident that XTBG will play a significant role in tropical biological studies and biodiversity conservation in the world.

During her stay in XTBG, Ms. Shen Yu made a report with the title of “The NSF Beijing Office and the Plan on Exchange Visits of Young and middle-aged Scientists between USA and China”.

Officially launched on May 24, 2006, the NSF Beijing Office is NSF’s third foreign office. NSF also maintains research offices in Paris and Tokyo.
