The Pilot Project of the Knowledge Innovation Program (KIP) entered into the Phase of Optimization in 2006, i.e. the third phase. As a CAS-affiliated institute, XTBG has defined its strategic target for the next 5 years.

Within the next five years (2006-2010), XTBG will further speed up the pace of exploring the theories and means of building a scientific botanical garden in order to reach the following goals and objectives:

  a.To become powerhouse of biodiversity conservation among the   tropics  in  China   and Southeastern countries, meanwhile to enlarge impact on neighboring countries;

 

   b.To build up a high-level Ecology Research Center which is well-facilitated,  completely-equipped, highly-open, and essentially-unsubstitutable;

 

     c. To build up well-designed beautiful gardens with preserved species and landscapes of the first-class tropical botanical gardens, of which two or three reach the world high-level living    plant collection;

 

     d.  To build up a development and conservation base for national strategic tropical plant resources;

 

  e.  To strive to become one of the first-class botanical gardens in the world.
