As the 85th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Communist Party, which falls on July 1, draws near, Yunnan provincial governor Xu Rongkai paid a special visit to XTBG former director Xu Zaifu in Kunming on June 19 to extend to him festival greetings.

When sharing the moment with Prof. Xu Zaifu, Governor Xu Rongkai told Prof. Xu that “on behalf of Yunnan provincial government and the CPC Yunnan Provincial Committee, I’d like to express our sincere greetings and thanks to you. Your studies on plant science have contributed a lot to Yunnan and even to the whole country”. The Governor also mentioned that Prof. Xu’s hard work on biodiversity conservation, ecological environmental protection and resources preservation is very significant.

Prof. Xu Zaifu expressed his gratitude to the Governor. He told the Governor that the implementation of the “Ten-Thousand-Plant-Species-Project” jointly funded by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Yunnan Provincial Government has made XTBG a first-class botanical garden in Asia. After listening to Prof. Xu’s report, the Governor said that the Provincial Government will give continuous support to the development of XTBG.

The Governor showed much interest in the studies on Pu’er Tea which Prof. Xu is now engaged in. He hoped that Prof. Xu will make new contributions to the tea industry of Yunnan province.

The Governor cared very much for Prof. Xu’s health and wished him all the best.

Governor Xu Rongkai’s visit was in the company of XTBG deputy director Cao Min and secretary-general Huang Yi of Yunnan Provincial Government.
