The “Workshop on Hainan Limestone Habitat and Biodiversity” was held in Hainan from March 19 to 24. At the invitation of Kardoorie Farm & Botanic Garden, Hong Kong, Prof. Zhu Hua made a thematic report titled “Ecosystem and Biodiversity Characteristics of Limestone Ecosystem in Southern China” on the workshop.

   Dr. Zhu’s report elaborated the main characteristics of Karst ecosystem and biodiversity in Southern China. He also put forward a suggestion that a nature reserve for limestone habitat should be established in Hainan.

   The Workshop was hosted by the Forestry Department of Hainan Province, in the assistance with Hong Kong Kardoorie Farm & Botanic Garden. More than 50 representatives from different countries and regions participated.

    The workshop was organized with the aim to facilitate information exchange, increase awareness on its conservation importance and make recommendations for the long-term and sustainable management of limestone habitats.
