On May 6, XTBG director Chen Jin and vice sheriff Yang Sha of Xishuangbanna headed up a 30-person group to investigate tropical forest protection in Mengsong-Bulang Mountain.

The tropical forests (including tropical seasonal rainforest, tropical montane rainforest and tropical montane broad-leafed evergreen forest) are of significant importance. The Mengsong-Bulang region reflects a complete forest ecosystem of Xishuangbanna, rich in biodiversity. The tropical montane rainforest are abundant in rare and endangered plant species, however many plant populations are outside of the established national nature reserve.  Over-exploration and illegal logging have much threatened the ecosystem. Therefore, it is extremely urgent to set up a nature reserve to protect the forest of that region.

After field investigation, vice sheriff Yang Sha, who’s also director of ADB-GMS Xishuangbanna project, made plans for recent work in 7 aspects and urged to put the project of establishing a nature reserve there under an authorized plan in all round.
