ADB approves new project for biodiversity, XTBG to play important role

    The Biodiversity Conservation Corridor Initiative (BCI) has been recently approved by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).In phase I (2006.1-2008.12), five GMS countries (China, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand) will carry out pilot projects in selected sites within one of the nine GMS biodiversity corridor landscapes. The total budget is $36.112 million, the ADB provides technical assistance for the implementation of the action plan. The action plan covers five program components, the national activities of the GMS countries, and the regional activities in support of crosscutting or transboundary themes.

      As the only partnership agency in China, XTBG will have 700,000 dollar assistance from ADB.

      Preparations are underway starting January 2006 to finalize work plans for year 1. Asian Development Bank plans to hold an inaugural workshop during April 24 to 28, 2006.
