The 3rd Xishuangbanna International Symposium themed with “Botanical Gardens and Climate Change” is going on during January 13-16. Over 90 scientists from 20 countries gathered together in Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) to develop a roadmap for scientific research and education in climate change biology at Botanical Gardens in China and worldwide.

   The symposium covered the following topics: 1) Climate change in China: past, present and future, 2) Monitoring the biological impacts of climate change, 3) Climate change and conservation,4) Mitigating climate change, 5) Climate change education, 6) Botanical Gardens and climate change: priorities for the future.

Some renowned botanists like Prof. Stephen Blackmore of Edinburgh Botanical Garden,and  Dr. Sara Oldfield of Botanical Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) were invited as keynote speakers.

The 4-day symposium is still going on. 7 keynote speeches, 33 oral presentations, 15 posters, and some oral sessions provided a platform for scientists to develop a blueprint for studies on botanical gardens and climate change.
