Dr. Lazaro J. O. Quintana, director of Jardín Botánico de Cienfuegos, headed up a 3-person delegation to visit XTBG for the first time during September 13-21. The delegation received warm reception from Dr. Chen Jin.
Meeting with the guests, Dr. Chen Jin briefed XTBG. The two sides showed intention for cooperating in plant species conservation and personnel training.
Dr. Lazaro J. O. Quintana introduced the history ofJardín Botánico de Cienfuegoswith a title “The Cienfuegos Botanical Garden, its hundred and ten years”, which arouse much interest among the audience.
During the visit, the Cuban guests were shown to the Herbarium, Seed Bank, Laboratory, Library, 20-ha plot, living collections, and other research facilities.
During September 18-20, Dr. Hu Huabin accompanied the guests to XTBG Kunming Division and Kunming Botanical Garden.
Founded in 1901, Cienfuegos Botanical Garden (Jardín Botánico de Cienfuegos) is Cuba’s oldest botanical garden. The garden treasures over 2,000 plants, including more than 70 exotic species, 280 breeds of palm trees, 65 fig species and 23 bamboo species.
Cienfuegos Botanical Garden, founded as a sugar cane study station, is regarded today as granddad of Cuban botanical gardens for its seniority and contribution to diversity of counterparts.
